Study Tours in Amsterdam and Berlin

In April and May the staff of the State Museum at Majdanek went on study tours at the key museums and education centres of Amsterdam and Berlin. The aim of their networking visit was to learn about the activities and programmes of foreign historical museums and to exchange ideas and experiences with diverse museum professionals.

Study Tours in Amsterdam and Berlin
The study tour was not only an opportunity to discover various approaches to conveying history and commemoration, but also to establish dialogue with partnership institutions. We have commonly reflected on the current and forthcoming challenges in working with the youth, various approaches to historical narratives and the museums’ role in preventing disremembering. We wish to express our gratitude to our hosts in Berlin: Haus der Wannsee-Konferenz Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe and the Denkmal Holocaust Information Centre Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin and in Amsterdam: Anne Frank House Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam Joods Cultureel Kwartier and the National Holocaust Museum Such joint efforts help us build an international network of remembrance. The study tour was a part of the “Spaces of the Holocaust: Majdanek, Bełżec, Sobibór” project held within the Young People Remember Programme, which is financed by the German Federal Foreign Office and the EVZ Foundation.
