Closed Museum in Sobibór

We kindly inform that due to the commencement of construction work on the grounds of the memorial site in Sobibór, the Museum of the Former Death Camp will be closed from March 1, 2017, until further notice.

For security reasons, the whole memorial site will be closed to the visitors. Apart from that the Museum will not provide any visitor services. However, it is possible to contact the staff of the State Museum at Majdanek branch in Sobibór via phone or email: +48 82 571 98 67, muzeumsobibor@wp.pl

Construction work to be implemented in 2017 is related to the protection of mass graves containing ashes of the camp victims and erection of an exhibition building. It is the first phase of the international project to create the Museum – Memorial Site on the grounds of the former German death camp in Sobibór. The Memorial Site has been built in accordance with the architectural and artistic project by a team of architects – Marcin Urbanek, Piotr Michalewicz, Łukasz Mieszkowski and Marcin Tański (see the visualization below).
