Opening of the permanent exhibition at the Museum and Memorial in Sobibór
We are pleased to inform you that on October 29, 2020, the permanent exhibition of the Museum and Memorial in Sobibór, entitled “SS-Sonderkommando Sobibor. German death camp 1942–1943,” will be opened.
The exhibition was prepared by the State Museum at Majdanek in cooperation with foreign partners. It presents the history of the extermination camp in Sobibór in the context of the mass extermination of Jews by the Third Reich under the code name “Einsatz Reinhardt.” More than 700 items belonging to the victims of the camp discovered during archaeological excavations as well as 100 documents and photographs, including recently released images taken by camp functionaries, are at the centre of the exhibition.
Due to the epidemic situation, the sanitary restrictions in force, and above all, out of concern for the safety of visitors, we do not organise an exhibition vernissage or a press conference. Media representatives interested in visiting Sobibór are asked to contact the Visitor Service Centre to arrange the date of arrival (+48 82 572 60 30; e-mail: email@example.com). At that point, located in the hall of the Museum and Memorial in Sobibór, visitors can obtain information and materials about the exhibition and purchase publications.
We would like to remind you that guide services at the State Museum at Majdanek and in its branches have been suspended until further notice. The exhibition can be visited individually in the sanitary regime, in accordance with the applicable guidelines (more details: http://www.sobibor-memorial.eu/en/news).
